Going Green
Working to be Sustainable

“I want to say one word to you. Just one word.”
“Yes sir.”
“Are you listening.”
“Yes I am.”
“Plastics.”
“Just how do you mean that, sir?”

An effective dialogue in the movie, The Graduate, but the use of plastics has had an enormous detrimental effect on our planet. SBMS does not want to add to that. In order to fulfill our “green” efforts, over the next month, we will be eliminating all beverages that come in plastic bottles. This includes water. The water fountains on campus are filtered and are still available for the students. Additionally, we will provide water daily from the Deli in a large orange container. Students must use their own cup to get the water from the container.

Please help us in this effort by:

  1. Sending your child with a reusable cup/container for water that they can store in their locker, AND
  2. Sending your child’s lunch from home in a reusable bag or lunch box. It is our hope that you will not be sending your child with a lunch that uses plastic, Styrofoam, or wax-coated items as containers.

The New Deli has made great strides in providing your children with organic food to eat, and utensils and cups made from corn, potatoes, and limestone. We are very proud of that. Our goal is to become as they say, “green” in our efforts to provide our planet with sustainable materials.

Thanks for your help!
